Dr. Rashid Lui’s Story

Dr Lui graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, CUHK with Distinctions in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Microbiology. He completed his training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Medical Oncology, and Advanced Internal Medicine at the Prince of Wales Hospital. Subsequently, he was conferred as a First Fellow in Genetics and Genomics (Medicine) by the Hong Kong College of Physicians. He has received various accolades, such as the Young Investigator’s Award (2nd Prize) at Asian Pacific Digestive Week 2018, the inaugural Dr Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation Scholar at the Centre for Personalised Medicine (a partnership between St Anne’s College and the Centre for Human Genetics), University of Oxford, United Kingdom, Distinguished Young Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2019, the 8th Youth DreamMakers Award in 2023, and the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Foundation (JGHF) Short-term Training Fellowship at the Cancer Genetics Service, National Cancer Centre Singapore in 2025. He holds the distinction of being the only physician to have represented Hong Kong in both the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Global Leadership Program – Asia Pacific and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Leaders Generation Programme Asia.

Dr Lui has published in peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Reviews Gastroenterology and Hepatology, JAMA Oncology, Gastroenterology and Gut, with a h-index of 29 (from Google Scholar). Internationally, he is a Member, Colonoscopy Quality Taskforce, Colorectal Cancer Screening Committee, World Endoscopy Organization (WEO), Member, Asia Pacific Working Group on Colorectal Cancer Screening, and immediate past Co-Chair of the Emerging Leaders Committee, Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology. Locally, he is the President of the Hong Kong Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, Founding Vice-President of the Hong Kong Society of Digestive Oncology, and Chair of the Public Affairs Committee of the Hong Kong Society of Gastroenterology.
