Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit has been seeing children with infectious diseases problems for more than 20 years. She also teaches medical students, house staff, and fellows in the field of pediatric infectious diseases at Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University which is the country’s largest tertiary and quaternary-care medical center and public hospital with 2,600 beds. Her special interests are in the field of HIV, immunization, tropical diseases such as dengue and tuberculosis, and emerging infectious diseases. With the support from the Faculty and the Department, she has conducted several studies in these areas. She was appointed the Chief of Pediatric Infectious Disease Division as well as the director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Research Unit since 2008, and now the Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research. With this position and the facility available, she can direct clinical research works efficiently. As the principal investigator of the site, she successfully conducted several NIH-sponsored Network studies at sites, such as the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trial Network (IMPAACT), the South East Asia Infectious Disease Clinical Research Network (SEAICRN).
Her research interests include HIV/AIDS in children, adolescents and pregnant women, antibiotics, vaccine in children, and tropical infectious diseases such as dengue adn tuberculosis. There are more than 100 research papers, academic works, and manuscripts have been published both locally and internationally.
