Dr. Noriko TANABE’s Story

I graduated from Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Tokyo in 1995, and completed the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the University of Tokyo in 1997. And then, I worked at a research institute of a food company as a resercher. During my time at university and at the company, I was consistently engaged in research on gene function analysis and genome analysis of microorganisms. In 2004, I started training in genetic counseling at Kitasato University Graduate School of Medical Sciences after entering the doctoral program, and obtained PhD in 2010. I was awarded a JSPS Research Fellowship DC to conduct clinical psychological research on breast cancer patients. Since that time, I have been working mainly with cancer patients and felt the importance of clinical research. From 2010, I had been an assistant professor at the Department of Medical Psychology, Pharmaceutical Education and Research Center, Kitasato University school of Pharmacy, where she conducted medical communication education and research. From 2016 to the present, I work as a genetic counselor at Department of Medical Genetics and Services, National Cancer Center Hospital, Japan. As a genetic counselor, I am in daily contact with cancer patients, and I always learn and realize many things from them. I would like to find what I can do.
