Dr. Đặng Huy Quốc Thịnh’s story

Dr. Thịnh received his medical degree from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1988. He completed his master’s degree in oncology in 2002 and earned his doctorate in 2013 from the same institution. He pursued a fellowship at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Grenoble, France, from 1994 to 1995, and received further training in South Korea, Singapore, the USA, and Switzerland.

Contributions to Palliative Care:
Since 2008, Dr. Thịnh has been a pioneer in developing and implementing cancer palliative care in Vietnam. In September 2015, under his leadership, the palliative care unit at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital was accredited as an ESMO Designated Centre of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care.

Professional Experience

  • Dr. Thinh has specialized in Radiation Oncology since 1993. He focused mainly on Head and Neck, breast, lung and rectal cancers. Dr. Thinh also serves as pioneer specialist in palliative care in VN. He is also inviting lecturer on cancer and recently has been assigned as Chief of Department of Palliative Care at the University of Pharmacy and Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City since 2019.
