Supporting Cancer Care with Central Venous Ports: Safe and Reliable IR Procedures

Miyuki Sone

A central venous port (CV port) is a vital device for cancer treatment, facilitating the safer and more comfortable administration of chemotherapy and blood sampling. At our hospital, we perform approximately 900 CV port placements annually, all of which are conducted under image guidance in 15 to 30 minutes. This technique allows for precise vascular access, minimizing complications and reducing patient burden. With a CV port in place, patients no longer need repeated needle sticks for each infusion, making the continuation of treatment smoother and more comfortable.
