Department of Esophageal Surgery

Hiroyuki Daiko

Our Department of Esophageal Surgery is one of Japan’s leading centers for esophageal cancer surgery, performing the highest number of surgeries nationwide. Nearly all surgeries are minimally invasive, with robotic surgeries accounting for approximately > 70% of cases. We utilize the state-of-the-art daVinci Xi/SP system and the domestically developed Hinotori robot.

In addition, we are at the forefront of innovation in trans-cervical mediastinoscopic surgery, the ultimate minimally invasive esophagectomy.

Since easing COVID-19 restrictions, we have hosted numerous international surgeons, demonstrating our commitment to global collaboration and education. Below is a summary of the international participants in recent years:

・2023: 25 participants from countries including China (6), India (4), Germany (4), South Korea (4), Spain (3), Canada (1), Hong Kong (1), Romania (1), Thailand (1).

・2024: 16 participants from countries including Spain (6), China (5), Bolivia (1), Germany (1), Kazakhstan (1), Netherlands (1), Taiwan (1).

We look forward to welcoming more international medical professionals and patients as we continue to push the boundaries of esophageal surgery and care.
