Department of Dentistry
Takao Ueno
Our dental unit provides support and treatment for oral side effects and other “oral problems” of cancer patients. During cancer treatment, various oral adverse events such as oral mucositis, dental infections during myelosuppression, drug-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw, etc. are common. Oral problems not only affect eating and speaking, directly reducing quality of life, but can also interfere with cancer treatment. We support patients’ treatment and lives by preventing and treating oral side effects associated with cancer treatment. We are also conducting clinical research into drugs to help prevent and treat oral mucositis, and are working to raise awareness of medical-dental collaboration in cancer throughout Japan.
