Department of Psycho-Oncology
Hiromichi Matsuoka
The Psycho-Oncology Department of the National Cancer Center Hospital helps cancer patients, their families, and survivors to alleviate their emotional distress and continue to receive appropriate cancer care. In addition, we accept trainees from Japan and overseas to train human resources for psycho-oncology. Furthermore, we are striving to create a new standard of care in psycho-oncology by conducting advanced medical care and clinical trials to alleviate the emotional distress associated with cancer around the world. In response to the needs of bereaved families, we have established guidelines for bereavement care in collaboration with academic societies and provide outpatient services for bereaved families. The Division conducts not only domestic multicenter collaborative studies but also international collaborative studies, and welcomes research proposals from home and abroad for the development of psycho-oncology.
