Department of Palliative Medicine

Eriko Satomi

The Department of Palliative Medicine at the National Cancer Center Hospital provides specialized palliative care to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families. We support patients in their efforts to face their illness and relieve their physical, emotional and social suffering so that they can receive treatment and convalesce with peace of mind. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists strives to help patients and their families live better lives through pain and symptom management, psychological support and social support. We also accept physicians from Japan and overseas for specialized palliative care training, and we are working to develop palliative care specialists. In addition, we are working to create evidence in the field of palliative care, including clinical research on palliative care and supportive care, and the simultaneous development of quality of life scales in Japanese.
