About cancer treatment
Treatment for cancer is constantly evolving. Especially in recent years, personalized medicine called genomic medicine has made safe and effective treatment possible. As a top-class facility in charge of genomic medicine, we at the National Cancer Center Central Hospital will do our utmost to treat, research, and train medical professionals together with people in Asia.
What is cancer genomic medicine? (for beginners)
Cancer genome medicine is a type of cancer treatment that comprehensively investigates genetic abnormalities using cancer tissues, etc., and optimizes treatment to suit each patient's physical and medical conditions. In the past, treatment was only decided by the site (organ) containing the cancer, but in cancer genome medicine, treatment is performed to suit each patient's genetic abnormality.
What are investigator-initiated clinical trials?
When you or a family member became ill, you probably noticed that the drugs you received from a hospital or pharmacy cured your illness or relieved your symptoms. Do you know the journey that these drugs take before they reach patients?
What is the significance of conducting international collaborative studies in Asia?
The National Cancer Center Hospital has established close partnerships in the field of clinical studies with Europe and America, as well as South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and other countries. The ATLAS project will strengthen the existing network and expand it to several Asian countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia, to further develop cancer treatments.
What is the ATLAS Network?
To date, the National Cancer Center Hospital has established good relationships with Europe and America, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and China (Hong Kong). This network has now been expanded to include five more countries, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia, to address common issues related to anticancer drug development in Asia. These newly participating countries are referred to as ATLAS participating countries.
