To medical examinees, patients and medical professionals
Why does Project CAD take place in Asia?
- QWhat is the value of collaborative research with Asia?
- AColorectal cancer screening is an important global issue, and it is advisable to conduct a multinational joint trial. Because of the similarities among ethnic groups and the feasibility of conducting a trial, it is considered best to conduct our collaborative trial in Asian countries.
- QWhy are Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand participating in Asia?
- AIn these countries and regions, colonoscopy is actually performed for colorectal cancer screening populations, and they are key countries and regions that have contributed to the development of guidelines for colorectal cancer screening in Asia.
Medical Devices Used in the Study
- QWhat is CADe?
- ACADe refers to a Computer-Aided Detection system using artificial intelligence to help endoscopists detect lesions by displaying on an endoscopic monitor the presence and location of lesions such as colorectal polyps and cancers in real-time during endoscopy.
- QWhat is different from conventional endoscopes?
- ACADe used in this study is a medical device manufactured and marketed with regulatory approval. CADe is a supporting device that is connected to usual endoscopy systems to help doctors perform endoscopy by displaying on an endoscopic monitor the presence of lesions. Therefore, even when using CADe, endoscope devices themselves are the same as those used in routine practice.
- QWhen participating in this trial, how is it determined whether CADe will be used in colonoscopy?
- AStudy participants will be asked to undergo either “colonoscopy with CADe (CADe group)” or “colonoscopy without CADe (conventional group).” It will be chosen by one of the two groups, CADe or Conventional, with a half probability of randomization. A doctor who performs colonoscopy on a routine basis will also be responsible for colonoscopy in this study to minimize the risk of disadvantage to either test.
The significance of this study
- QWhat is the significance of this study?
- AIf this study proves the effectiveness of colonoscopy using CADe, it is expected that the use of CADe will become a new standard for colonoscopy in screening for colorectal cancer and improve the quality of colonoscopy in screening populations in Asia. It is also expected to contribute to the improvement in the quality of colorectal cancer screening itself.
