Overview of Research Activities
Computer-Aided Detection system using artificial intelligence (CADe) supports doctors performing colonoscopy by displaying on an endoscopic monitor a sign indicating the presence of colorectal lesions, including polyps and cancer during colonoscopy. CADe is expected to improve the detection of lesions during colonoscopy. Under these circumstances, it is considered highly significant to conduct a study to evaluate the effectiveness of CADe for colonoscopy performed in colorectal cancer screening populations, with the aim of improving the quality of colonoscopy in screening for colorectal cancer in Asia. Therefore, we conduct this study, “A multicenter randomized controlled trial to assess the usefulness of computer-aided detection systems for colonoscopy in colorectal cancer screening in the Asia-Pacific region; Project CAD”. A total of 13 institutions in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand are participating in this study to verify that colonoscopy using CADe is more likely to detect lesions (superiority) than conventional colonoscopy without CADe in colorectal cancer screening populations (including both those who undergo primary screening colonoscopy and those who undergo colonoscopy for a positive fecal occult blood).

Origin of the name
The project name is “A multicenter randomized controlled trial to assess the usefulness of computer-aided detection systems for colonoscopy in colorectal cancer screening in the Asia-Pacific region- Prospective study from Japan Asia Multicounty RCT-.” Based on the alphabets shown in the underlined part, this study is called “Project CAD.” In order to improve the quality of colonoscopy in screening for colorectal cancer in Asia, this project will be promoted in collaboration with multiple institutions in Asia.
